New Historical Fiction Series Introduces Lead-Off Novel
Whispers on the Wind by Bridget Geegan Blanton
UPLAND, California, November 25, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- With colder weather on the horizon, a captivating page-turner remains the better part of a cozy, winter afternoon. While curling up with a good book these days can imply either an electronic reader or a paperback, enjoying a great read is still the desired end. This is the appeal of Whispers on the Wind, by Bridget Geegan Blanton, where the reader is transported back to 1884 and into the life of Kate O’Reilly for an unforgettable story.
Kate’s personal journey begins amidst the mystical beauty of the Irish coastline. She learns early that love and laughter help to ease a soul’s burden in life. Kate O’Reilly, just 17, has the pedigree of an Irish peasant and the confidence of a Celtic Warrior Queen. Out of a sense of duty, Kate follows her parents to America and leaves behind a dream for her own future in Ireland, the country she loves.
In the days just prior to the voyage from Ireland to America, Kate has a chance meeting with a young American, Liam O’Rourke. The attraction between the two young people is evident, but Kate resists the attraction. Liam unwittingly represents the source of Kate’s current struggle and she cannot allow herself to feel anything but indifference.
At the end of the ocean voyage, Kate is beset by tragedy. She is initiated into adulthood through heartache and adversity. The intermix of colorful characters, both friend and foe, play critical roles as Kate emerges from mere survival to accept and determine her destiny. Accompany Kate from the rugged, Irish shoreline, through Chicago and on to the verdant mountain valley of Santa Ynez, California where she finds happiness and meaning for her life.
This novel is much more than just an Irish emigrant’s tale, it follows a course set directly into the wind that is marked by spiritual strength, courage and love.
"Blanton's writing is refreshingly self-assured and graceful, her sentiment is clear and unapologetic, and she knows how to portray the human condition."
