Here in California Sens. Boxer and Feinstein, and Rep Pelosi live like the privileged they are, while decrying the plight of the less fortunate. Someone who forbids drilling in ANWR rarely decides to down-size her home.

A Senator Dodd who rails at the mortgage lenders’ greed has no problem taking a cut-rate loan from them–if it is a question of buying appropriate homes for his sixty-something efforts at establishing a young family.

This is the apparent current logic of much of environmentally sensitive America:



a. It is ecologically wise to forbid safe drilling off Santa Barbara but OK to count on dangerous extraction off Nigeria? Don’t drill off Florida but mine coal all you want for America’s electricity in West Virginia? Please save the Alaskan tundra, but sell as much messy Siberian oil as possible?



b. Gas prices aren’t all that bad since it will force us to buy Priuses–which only the affluent can afford? I have no doubt that a lot of SUVs, Crown Victorias, and F-250s will come on the second-hand market cheaply in the near future–and will be about the only automobiles the poor can afford for small trips to the store. Not drilling in the US was about the worse thing anyone could have done for the lower classes. 3-4 million barrels a day more would indeed have lowered both the price of gas in real terms here, and cooled down the psychological climate that spurs on speculation/



c. We would rather take hard-earned US cash and hand it over to Iran, Venezuela, Russia, Saudi Arabia, etc. than invest in American infrastructure by earning (soaring) federal revenues for gas and oil leasing in known areas of easily recoverable oil?



d. By any sane measure—reducing the trade deficit, bolstering the dollar, earning revenue for cash-strapped states, keeping billions out of the hands of lunatic regimes, ensuring the independence of American foreign policy, helping our own poor to afford transportation, preserving the ecology of the planet—it makes sense to drill, use coal cleanly, develop tar sands and shale, and build nuclear plants, until we transition to Obama promise of “wind, solar, and millions of new jobs in green industries!”

“Do-Nothing” Democrat leadership continues to sit on the sidelines as gas prices soar higher.

While American families are heading into yet another weekend destined to bring with it even higher gas prices, Congress has once again gone home without acting on a comprehensive plan to lower the price at the pump.




As a result, when they see their constituents over the weekend, the Democrats who control Congress are likely to get an earful about their outright opposition to increasing production of American energy to help bring down surging gas prices.




In spite of the Democrats’ refusal to act, House Republicans refuse to accept “no” for an answer. Rather, as Reuters reported, “Congressional Republicans vowed on Thursday to make a major push for more U.S. oil and gas drilling and in the process force Democrats to cast difficult votes at a time of skyrocketing gasoline prices.”

Democrats have made a mess out of the California economy. It's time to send them packing.... The state of California, a $100 billion-plus enterprise, could run short of cash to pay its bills this summer. If it does, it could cost tax payers dearly.




If lawmakers can’t agree on a budget, it would force the state to take out a high-risk loan of more than $10 billion - and pay a premium of possibly hundreds of millions of dollars as security, money that could otherwise be spent on schools, health care and other needs.




Beyond that, the state’s credit rating could be downgraded, raising the interest costs of future borrowing. However reckless the scenario might seem, it has happened before.




During the last serious budget crisis, in 2003, the state secured the same type of loan - called a revenue anticipation warrant - of $11 billion. Because California’s finances were so shaky, the state had to pay $140 million for "credit enhancement" in addition to interest payments exceeding $120 million!




Securing "credit enhancement" for a $10 billion loan could cost in the hundreds of millions of dollars, before interest payments.




Republicans, who hold effective veto power over the budget, have vowed to block any tax increases; Democrats insist it’s impossible to close the budget gap without a whole host of new punitive taxes - yet they refuse to restrain their out of control spending......









CA Dems Top 10 Tax Hikes




“Top 10” tax increases proposed by Democrats so far this year:




10. The iTunes Tax


Assembly Bill 1956 (Calderon) would require state tax officials to begin imposing sales taxes on music, movies and software purchases made online, such as on iTunes. Democrats have also talked about taxing all items purchased on the Internet ($500 million tax increase).




9. The Plastic Bag Tax


Assembly Bill 2829 (Davis) would impose a new plastic bag tax, at a still-unspecified level, on the plastic bags used by grocery stores and other retailers to package purchases.




8. Making It Easier for Politicians to Raise Taxes


Senate Constitutional Amendment 18 (Torlakson) would make it easier for local politicians to raise taxes, by allowing educational finance districts to impose special taxes by a majority vote.




7. Increasing the Car Tax


Assembly Bill 2388 (Feuer) would raise the car tax based on the weight of the vehicle and the amount of carbon dioxide emissions it emits, to a still-unspecified level.



Assembly Bill 2522 (Arambula) would authorize San Joaquin Valley air quality officials to impose a new $30 car tax on local drivers, without a vote of the people.



Assembly Bill 2638 (Coto) would impose a new sales tax on the sale of cars in California that get less than 15 miles per gallon.



Senate Bill 1731 (Yee) would authorize San Francisco Bay Area transportation officials to impose a higher car tax on local drivers, without a vote of the people.



Democrats have also proposed restoring the higher car tax imposed by former Governor Gray Davis and repealed by Governor Schwarzenegger upon taking office, a $6 billion tax increase.




6. Increasing the Gas Tax


Assembly Bill by (Núñez) would impose a costly new “oil severance” tax on the cost of oil production in California. This will cause gas prices to soar new heights in California as this new tax will be passed along to consumers in the form of higher prices at the pump.



Assembly Bill 2744 (Huffman) would authorize San Francisco Bay Area transportation officials to impose a new gas tax, of as much as 10 cents per gallon, to pay for new government spending.



Assembly Bill 2558 (Feuer) would authorize Los Angeles transportation officials to impose one of two different taxes, subject to a majority vote, to address climate change – an increased gas tax as high as 3 percent, or an increased car tax as high as $80.



5. Raising Income Taxes


Assembly Bill 2372 (Coto) would impose a new 1 percent tax on Californians earning more than $1 million per year, raising the state’s highest income tax rate to 11.3 percent.



Assembly Bill 2897 (Hancock) would impose a new 10 percent tax rate for individuals earning more than $136,115 every year ($272,230 for joint filers) and a new 11 percent tax rate for individuals earning more than $272,230 per year ($544,460 for joint filers).


4. Closing So-Called “Tax Loopholes”


Democrats and others have pushed closing “tax loopholes,” which is an effort to raise taxes on working Californians. These so-called loopholes include taking away the senior citizen tax credit (a $255 million tax increase) and reducing the child dependent tax credit ($2.4 billion) – which will hurt middle-class families.




3. New Health Taxes


Democrats have proposed the largest tax increase on businesses in state history, an $8 billion jobs tax, to pay for government-run health care. In addition, Assembly Bill 2967 (Fuentes) would impose a new .06 percent tax on the gross operating costs of every California hospital, to pay for new government health care programs.




2. Creating a New Tax on California Businesses


Speaker Núñez has talked about creating a new split-roll property tax on California businesses, which would be a $3 to $7 billion tax increase on businesses. This would lead to higher prices for consumers and the threat of job losses.




1. Taking Away the Home Mortgage Interest Deduction


Democrats have proposed eliminating the state home mortgage interest deduction, also known as the homeowner’s tax, which provides significant tax savings for working families and helps many Californians afford the expensive costs of home ownership. This would be a $5.3 billion tax hike.

SACRAMENTO - California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring today issued the following statement concerning Barack Obama's shifting positions:



"As Californians gets to know Barack Obama, it's fitting that Obama is running as an agent of 'change': he is constantly changing his position on taxes, trade, and the economy."

Yesterday, Ben Smith at The Politico announced the latest addition to the Obama Campaign, Patrick Gaspard:



Patrick Gaspard, a New York labor official Obama's campaign tried to recruit in the primary, is joining the campaign as its political director, the campaign announced.




Gaspard is the top political of the powerhouse New York-based healthcare workers union 1199, an SEIU affiliate and the largest local union in the country, where he specialized in winning state and local races through powerful,well-organized and energized ground operations. So who is this Patrick Gaspard and why was the Obama Campaign so eager to put him on staff?




In 2004, Patrick Gaspard Served As National Field Director For 527 Organization America Coming Together, a group that was later fined $775,000 in civil penalties by the federal government. The Washington Post reported:




The Kerry effort will be aided by America Coming Together, an independent group working to get out the Democratic vote. The group plans to stage marches before Election Day to polling stations that open early in key states to put ‘peer and community pressure’ on low-propensity voters, said Patrick Gaspard, the group's national field director. In 2004 ACT Hired Dozens Of Felons As Voter Canvassers In Missouri, Ohio And Florida, Including People Convicted Of "Crimes Such As Burglary, Forgery, Drug Dealing, Assault And Sex Offenses":




A Democratic group crucial to John Kerry’s presidential campaign has paid felons – some convicted of sex offenses, assault and burglary – to conduct door-to-door voter registration drives in at least three election swing states. America Coming Together, contending that convicted criminals deserve a second chance in society, employs felons as voter canvassers in major metropolitan areas in Missouri, Florida, Ohio and perhaps in other states among the 17 it is targeting in its drive. Some lived in halfway houses, and at least four returned to prison. ... A review of federal campaign finance and state criminal records by The Associated Press revealed that the names and hometowns of dozens of ACT employees in Missouri, Florida and Ohio matched those of people convicted of crimes such as burglary, forgery, drug dealing, assault and sex offenses...




ACT canvassers ask residents which issues are important to them and, if they are not registered, sign them up as voters. They gather telephone numbers and other personal information, such as driver’s license numbers or partial Social Security numbers, depending on what a state requires for voter registration...




[ACT Spokesman Mo] Elleithee confirmed that felons have been hired in Missouri, Florida and Ohio and said it is possible they have been hired in the other 14 states in which it’s conducting its drive: Arizona, Arkansas, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Seven of the ACT employees lived at Missouri halfway houses and at least four returned to prison:




Some of the felons lived in halfway houses, and at least four returned to prison... Five ACT employees lived at the Kansas City Community Release Center and two others at the St. Louis Community Release Center earlier this year... Four of ACT’s former employees living at a Missouri halfway house have since been returned to prison - two for drug violations, one for endangering the welfare of a child and another for walking away from the facility. Because of this the Missouri Department Of Corrections banished ACT from its pool of potential employers for Parolees, saying, "They did not want offenders handing sensitive personal information:




Citing security concerns for the public and for the felons, the Missouri Department of Corrections in April banished ACT from its pool of potential employers for parolees in its halfway houses in Kansas City and St. Louis, department spokesman John Fougere said. Five ACT employees lived at the Kansas City Community Release Center and two others at the St. Louis Community Release Center earlier this year. ‘From a public safety standpoint, we didn’t want offenders to be in a situation where they would be handling that information,’ Fougere said. The names of two of the ACT employees even matched those of people convicted of murder and rape! And, of course, ACT submitted hundreds of faulty registrations to St. Louis, via KMOV:




Sleuths at the St. Louis County Board of Election Commissioners are trashing hundreds of faulty voter registrations, most of them collected by voter drive groups like Pro-Vote and America Coming Together... KMOV presented [Commissioner David] Welch with a list of names of voters who apparently registered twice, using variations of their names - registrations that had not yet been flagged. And, ACT was also good at getting the dead voters signed up in time for the election.




ACT was sued in Ohio by the Republican Party for placing calls telling Republican voters to go to the wrong polling place:




The Ohio Republican Party sued in Marion County just before its county courthouse doors closed at 4:30 p.m., asking for a restraining order against state and county Democrats and the political group America Coming Together. The suit claimed they were peppering the Republican strongholds of Marion and Greene counties with misleading taped phone messages. Republican attorney Mark Weaver said several dozen GOP voters complained to party headquarters that the messages directed them to an improper polling place or told them, incorrectly, that they needed to bring identification or a utility bill to the polls. It's funny how we didn't hear much about this at the time?




That is a little backround on ACT. No wonder the Obama Campaign wanted Patrick Gaspard in their camp!




Change- Hope?... Don't think so.

10 Concerns about Barack Obama




1. Barack Obama’s foreign policy is dangerous, naïve, and betrays a profound misreading of history.




2. Barack Obama’s Iraq policy will hand al-Qaeda a victory and undercut our entire position in the Middle East, while at the same time put a huge source of oil in the hands of terrorists.




3. Barack Obama has sent mixed, confusing, and inconsistent messages on his policy toward Israel.




4. Barack Obama was dishonest to the American people when speaking of his former pastor and spiritual adviser the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and has been on a variety of issues, the most recent is his flipping and flopping on public financing, etc. he’s got some character issues as relates to honesty.




5. Barack Obama’s judgment about personal and professional affiliations is more than troubling.




6. Obama is simply out of step with how terrorists should be handled; he would turn back the clock on how we fight terrorism, using the failed strategy of the 1990s as opposed to the post-9/11 strategy that has kept us safe.




7. Barack Obama’s economic policies would hurt the economy.




8. Barack Obama opposes drilling on and offshore to reduce gas and oil prices.




9. Barack Obama is to the left of Hillary Clinton on the issue of life. As a state senator in Illinois, Barack Obama voted against the Induced Infant Liability Act, a law that would have protected babies if they survived an attempted abortion and were delivered alive.




10. Barack Obama is actually to the left of every member of the U.S. Senate.
