The juice from the arils found inside fresh pomegranates provide a specific antioxidant known as polyphenol. Studies indicate that the antioxidant polyphenol, found in pomegranate juice, has been effective in providing increased nitric oxide bioavailability, which assists your body in obtaining both the nutrients and the oxygen that is needed during physical workouts.
On the cellular level, energy is generated when electrons are separated from amino acids, sugars and fatty acids and introduced to other molecules such as oxygen. This new cellular formation is known as a ‘free radical’. Our bodies generate free radicals though oxidation, upon exposure to ultraviolet rays, air pollution and intense exercise. As with all things, balance is important and for this reason it is best to ingest antioxidants from whole foods and not over the counter supplements.
Pomegranates are available right now at your grocery store. Not only are these beautiful fruits just one more amazing testament to the creativity and the unfathomable intelligence of our Creator, but they are also high in potassium, a electrolyte that directly affects muscle function.
If you are new to working with pomegranates, here are a few tips... Throw on an apron or an old tee-shirt, because it you’re like me, you’ll more than likely blast whatever you’re wearing with a bit of ruby red pomegranate juice. Just slice it in half over a bowl and begin separating the individual arils from the inside membrane. Sure, it’s a tad time consuming but, while you’re working away, allow yourself to marvel at the intelligent design of this remarkable fruit you are holding. Also, fresh is always best when it comes to juicing.
The simple recipe that follows, is for cold pressed juicers.
Pink Fit Juice
Arils from one pomegranate
Juice the fruit listed above and then pour it all into a blender jar.
Add 1 frozen banana to the juice mixture and give it a few whirls.
Yum! (it’s pretty too!)
